Robertson puts on show for UAA women in rout of Billings

Kiki Robertson put on a show for the UAA's women's basketball team Saturday in Billings, Montana.

With snow piled up in record amounts outside Alterowitz Gymnasium, Robertson piled up points inside to lead the Seawolves to an 87-44 Great Northwest Athletic Conference win over Montana State-Billings.

A senior guard, Robertson scored 22 points on 8 of 10 shooting, handed out seven assists, made four steals and grabbed three rebounds in 23 minutes of turnover-free play.

"She keeps getting better and better, which is really cool to see in her senior season," UAA coach Ryan McCarthy said. "This was the best overall performance I think I've seen from her.

"… Sometimes seniors see that light at the end of the tunnel and get ultra-engaged. You can't really put yourself there until you're in your last year. She works hard, and it's showing."

Robertson and the rest of the Seawolves (11-1 overall, 4-0 GNAC) were simply too much for the Yellowjackets (4-8, 1-3).

They shot 48 percent from the floor and knocked down 13 3-pointers, two shy of the program record. Tara Thompson hit five of 11 long-range shots on her way to 17 points and Robertson drained three of four while coming within one point of her career-high of 23 points, recorded back when she was a freshman.

"She's been a serviceable perimeter shooter," McCarthy said, "but today they were really falling for her."

The Seawolves racked up 17 steals — accounting for almost half of Billings' 35 turnovers — and outrebounded Billings 31-22 behind a game-high seven boards from Yazmeen Goo, who shares time at point guard with Robertson. Goo added six assists and four steals to offset six turnovers.

Autummn Williams added 13 points and Kimijah King had 10 for the Seawolves, who outscored Billings 39-9 from 3-point range and 14-3 from the foul line.

Marissa Van Atta's 12 points and Tiana Hanson's 10 points and three blocks led the Yellowjackets, who trailed 46-19 at the half.

The game was the first for UAA since the holiday break. The Seawolves played three nonconference games in Hawaii before the break, and then traded sunshine for snow for their return to conference action in Billings.

The Montana city received more than three inches of snow Friday to bring its December total to 29.8 inches — breaking the record of 28.8 inches set in 1955.

The Seawolves return to the road this week for conference games at Western Oregon and Concordia.
