Robertson steals a record in UAA's 101-69 women's basketball victory

Kiki Robertson set another school record and the UAA women's basketball team hit the 100-point mark for the second time in four games Saturday night at the Alaska Airlines Center.

Robertson grabbed five steals to rob Seawolves legend Robin Graul of the career steals record in a 101-69 victory over Northwest Nazarene.

The win keeps 7th-ranked UAA undefeated in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. The Seawolves are 8-0 in conference play and 15-1 overall.

Autummn Williams poured in 20 points, Alysha Devine and Kimijah King each scored 13 on a combined 11-of-12 shooting effort and Shelby Cloninger added 10 for UAA, which shot 46.4 percent from the field.

All 12 Seawolves scored, 10 got rebounds, nine handed out assists and six came up with steals.

"Our focus was terrific for the entire game, especially playing against a team that does a lot to mess up their opponents' tempo and constantly changes its defensive looks," said UAA head coach Ryan McCarthy, who earned a fourth straight victory over his alma mater. "I think we continued to show that we're a very dangerous team when we stick to our system and play within ourselves."

Robertson, a senior point guard, was particularly dangerous. She had five points, five rebounds, five steals and six assists against no turnovers in 24 minutes of action.

Her five steals vaulted her past Graul on the school's all-time steals list. Graul, who all but owned the UAA record book by the end of her four-year career in 1989, held the steals record of 329 for nearly three decades.

Robertson, who has 332 steals and counting, set the school's all-time assists record last season.

Northwest Nazarene (7-7, 5-3) got 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from forward Kate Cryderman, but the rest of the Crusaders made just 13 of 50 attempts.

Even so, NNU was still in the game late in the first half, trailing 37-31 with less than four minutes left. UAA ended the half with a 12-4 run to lead 49-35 at the break, and then dominated the third quarter 28-15 thanks to 66.7 percent shooting.

UAA travels to Washington this week for a Thursday game against 11th-ranked Seattle Pacific and a Saturday game against Saint Martin's.
