Seawolves snag 2 top-4 finishes to open indoor track and field season

Two UAA men grabbed top-four finishes at the UW Indoor preview track and field meet in Seattle to open the indoor track and field season Saturday.

Senior Joe Day led the 19-ranked Seawolves with the second-fasted NCAA Division II time in the 800 meters, finishing fourth in 1 minute, 52.07 seconds.

He finished one spot behind the Division II leader, Josh Dempsey (1:51.35) of Western Oregon.

Senior Adam Commandeur dashed to third place in the 400 in 48.59 seconds for UAA's best finish of the meet.

Three other Seawolves earned NCAA provisional times, which should earn them spots in the NCAA championships — Dominik Notz (3,000) for the men and Jamie Ashcroft (200) and Mary-Kathleen Cross (400) for the women.

The Seawolves will have the next weekend off before returning to Seattle for the Husky Invitational, Jan. 27-28.
