WCHA suspends UAA's Mitchell for one hockey game

Sophomore forward Mason Mitchell will be suspended for the UAA hockey team's next game, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association said Tuesday.

Mitchell will miss Friday's road game at Northern Michigan because of a blindside hit in the first overtime period of Saturday's game between UAA and Michigan Tech.

No penalty was called at the time, but WCHA officials decided later the hit warranted a one-game suspension.

Mitchell has six goals and eight points in 23 games this season.

Also getting a one-game suspension Tuesday was UAF junior forward Austin Vieth, who got a game misconduct for contact to the head Saturday in a game against Ferris State. Vieth will miss the Nanooks' Friday game against Bowling Green.
