UAA gymnasts tough to beat in first home meet of season

The first home meet of the season turned into the first team victory of the season Friday for the UAA gymnastics team.

Competing in front of a lively crowd of 675 at the Alaska Airline Center's auxiliary gym, the Seawolves won three of the four individual events while cruising to a decisive team victory over Wisconsin-Stout.

Anchorage senior Kallie Randolph grabbed victory the floor exercise with a score of 9.7 to help UAA beat the Blue Devils by nearly four points, 188.200 to 184.425.

Two freshmen earned victories for the Seawolves. Sophia Hyderally won the balance beam in her college debut in that event with a score of 9.675, and Mackenzie Miller scored a 9.5 in uneven parallel bars to share the title with teammate Nicole Larkin, a senior who also scored 9.5.

Wisconsin-Stout led by Kaylee Jondahl's winning 37.700 all-around total, which included victory in the vault with a score of 9.7. UAA's Morgan Ross placed third in the all-around with 37.125 points.

UAA placed 1-2-3 in floor exercise and balance beam.

The teams will meet again Monday in a 7 p.m. meet at the Alaska Airlines Center.
