Seawolves earn highest score of season in gymnastics comeback win

The Seawolves earned their highest gymnastics score of the season Monday in a 189.350-188.350 victory over Wisconsin-Stout in a dual meet at the Alaska Airlines Center.

UAA (2-4) needed a late comeback to earn the win.

The Seawolves got a 37.350 from lone all-arounder Morgan Ross, and fellow juniors Madeline Arbuckle and Kendra Daniels combined for four scores of 9.425 or better. All three seniors made big contributions as well, with Brice Mizell, Nicole Larkin and Kallie Randolph posting five scores of at least 9.475.

The Blue Devils (0-3) — an NCAA Div. III program from Menomonie, Wisconsin — nearly pulled the upset behind a winning 37.775 all-around from MacKenzie Nicholson.

UAA took a brief lead after the first rotation before Stout responded, taking a 141.775-141.150 edge heading into the final turn. The Seawolves excelled on floor exercise scoring a season-best 48.500 on the last apparatus to clinch the victory.

Freshman Kennedy Green got UAA off to a fast start with a 9.625 on floor and was followed by Mizell's career-high 9.775 routine. Randolph added a 9.675 in the penultimate position, and Ross capped the night with a 9.875 — good for a career high and tying the 10th-best floor score in Seawolf history.

The Seawolves are off next weekend before heading to Sacramento State on Feb. 3 for their first meet against a fellow Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponent.
