UAA skier Field claims 2nd place in West Region slalom championship

Fueled by a fast first run, UAA skier Charley Field claimed second place in the women's giant slalom Friday at the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Championships in Colorado.

Field won the first run at Beaver Creek Resort. Her two-run total time of 1 minute, 48.46 seconds put her .14 of a second behind winner Stephanie Gartner of Montana State.

The Seawolves placed three skiers in the top 20 of the men's race — sophomore Tony Naciuk was 12th, senior Hughston Norton tied for 17th and freshman Dominic Unterberger was 20th. Colorado's David Ketterer won the race.

In the women's race, sophomore Alix Wells placed 21st and senior Katerine Lamoureux was 28th for the Seawolves, who are in sixth place in the team standings after the first day of competition.

The meet, which doubles as the NCAA West Region championships, continues with the slalom race for alpine skiers and the classic race for nordic skiers on Saturday. It concludes Sunday with the cross-country freestyle race.
