Lammers places 8th to lead Alaska skiers at regional championships in Colorado

Sarissa Lammers of Eagle River posted a top-10 finish for the UAF ski team Saturday at the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Championships in Colorado.

Lammers finished eighth in the women's 5-kilometer classic race at Minturn. She was about a minute off the winning pace set by Utah's Merete Myrseth.

Hannah Rudd was UAA's top finisher in 26th place.

In the men's 10K classic, Toomas Kollo topped the Seawolves by placing 17th. Nick Lovett placed eighth and Max Donaldson, a West Valley graduate, was 11th for the UAF men.

In slalom competition in Beaver Creek, UAA was led by Hughston Norton, who was 16th in the men's race, and Charley Field, who was 20th in the women's race. On Friday, Field claimed second place in the giant slalom.

UAA is in sixth place in the team standings at the meet, which doubles as the NCAA West Regional Championships. Action wraps up Sunday with a freestyle race for the Nordic skiers.
