UAA slips 2 places to 11th as NCAA Ski Championships wrap

UAA dropped two places in the team standings to finish 11th and UAF's Sarissa Lammers of Eagle River bagged second-team All-America honors Saturday as the NCAA Ski Championships in New Hampshire wrapped with nordic freestyle races.

The Seawolves finished 11th with 125 points and the Nanooks, who only compete in nordic events, took 13th with 104 points.

Lammers, a junior, delivered the best performance of the week from a Seawolf or Nanook when she finished eighth in the women's 15-kilometer race in 40 minutes, 46 seconds. UAF senior Nicole Bathe took 12th in 40:52 and junior Ann-Cathrin Uhl was 34th in 43:58.

Freshman Hailey Swirlbul led UAA with her 17th-place finish in 41:46. Also competing for UAA were sophomore Casey Wright, 30th in 43:06, and freshman Natalie Hynes, 33rd in 43:53.

On the men's side, UAF got the better of UAA in the 20K race. Nanooks senior Michael Fehrenbach claimed 20th in 48:08, sophomore Max Donaldson took 23rd in 48:23 and junior Jan Cech finished 27th in 48:30.

Sophomore Toomas Kollo paced UAA with his 32nd-place finish in 48:57. Freshman Pietro Mosconi finished 35th in 50:03 and freshman Zacharias Torreson was 38th in 50:37.

Utah won the championship with 541.5 points and Colorado (525 points) edged Denver (524) for runner-up.
