UAA volleyball adds 3 recruits, including local Anjoilyn Vreeland

UAA volleyball coach Chris Green, who guided the Seawolves to a national runner-up finish in Division II last season, Friday announced the signing of three recruits, including former Dimond High libero and defensive specialist Anjoilyn Vreeland.

Green announced the signings of Vreeland from Blue Mountain Community College in Oregon as well as middle blocker/right-side hitter Tara Melton, a first-team All-American for Glendale Community College in Arizona and Vera Pluharova, a middle blocker from the Czech Republic.

Vreeland and Melton have already enrolled at UAA and joined spring practices.

Vreeland, who won two state titles at Dimond and played in four consecutive Class 4A finals with the Lynx, averaged 3.08 digs per set for Blue Mountain. The 6-foot-1 Melton last season averaged 3.05 kills and 0.78 blocks per set, and her .435 hitting percentage ranked third nationally in the junior college ranks. The 6-foot-2 Pluharova played against the Seawolves during their European summer tour in 2015.

The three recruits bring Green's recruiting class to five.

UAA last season went 34-3 and won the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title for the second straight season. The Seawolves for the second straight season also hosted the NCAA West Region Championship, which they won. Green has nine returners, including four starters, coming back for the 2017 season.
