Colorado College cools off UAA, Mantha for 6-1 hockey win

Colorado College cooled off a hot goaltender Friday night to clobber the UAA hockey team 6-1 in a nonconference game in Colorado Springs.

Olivier Mantha, who was all but bullet-proof last weekend against North Dakota, was merely human against the Tigers.

Colorado College (2-1-0) scored 29 seconds into the game and led 3-0 after the first period, during which 25 percent of its shots — three of 12 — found the net.

In the second period, Mantha stopped 18 of 19 shots and Trey deGraaf scored his first career goal to put UAA on the scoreboard 4-1. Colorado College chased Mantha midway through the third period by scoring two goals on five shots.

That brought on backup goaltender Brody Claeys, who stopped all three shots he faced in the final 9 minutes, 20 seconds.

Mantha, who made 77 saves and surrendered four goals last weekend in two games against North Dakota, finished with 30 saves against the Tigers.

He was particularly strong when Colorado College had the man advantage, stopping the Tigers on seven of their eight power plays.

UAA (0-2-1) was scoreless on four power plays.

Goaltender Alex Leclerc recorded 25 saves and six different players scored for Colorado College, which hosts UAA again Saturday.
