UAA volleyball team treats big crowd to a victory

A big Alaska Airline Center crowd saw a career-high 26 digs from senior Taylor Noga and an all-around effort from senior Chrisalyn Johnson in UAA's volleyball victory over Western Oregon on Saturday night.

UAA beat the Wolves in four sets 25-16, 24-26, 25-22, 26-24, in front of a crowd of 1,392.

Johnson was busy all night. She finished with nine kills, 20 digs, four aces, three block assists and two assists to help UAA improve to 13-3 overall and 6-2 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Noga helped the Seawolves outdig Western Oregon 82-61 and Vera Pluharova had seven block assists to help them outblock the Wolves 10-4.

Ellen Floyd dished 35 assists while feeding a variety of hitters — Vanessa Boyer slammed a match-high 14 kills, Tara Melton added 13 kills on red-hot .550 hitting and Eve Stephens had 12. Floyd added four kills and 12 digs.

Western Oregon (5-10, 2-6) was led by Marlie Norman's 11 kills and Sianna DeCarli's 10. Sophie Hall, a Colony High graduate, added four kills and two block assists for the visitors.
