UAA volleyball team cruises past Saint Martin’s

Freshman Eve Stephens notched a team-high 15 kills and junior outside hitter Vanessa Boyer provided an all-around effort as the UAA volleyball team earned a 3-1 road win over Saint Martin's (Wash.) on Thursday.

The Seawolves won the first set easily 25-11 and appeared to be poised to earn a sweep over the Saints. But Saint Martin fought back to earn a 28-26 second-set victory before UAA closed out the match, winning the final two sets 25-18 and 25-11, respectively.

"I'm happy that we took care of business, despite that hiccup in the second set," UAA head coach Chris Green said in a university press release. "Now we have the opportunity to refocus and get ready for an extremely challenging match Saturday at (Seattle Pacific)."

Boyer was not only dominant at the net with 14 kills and three blocks, but also at the service line, where she tallied a pair of aces. UAA, which earned its 21st straight win against the Saints, dominated with the serve. The Seawolves held a 15-3 advantage in aces, including a career-high four from sophomore Anjoilyn Vreeland.

Freshman setter Ellen Floyd led the way with 29 assists for UAA (14-3 overall, 7-2 Great Northwest Athletic Conference), which takes on Seattle Pacific on Saturday at 2 p.m. ADT.
