Bemidji State skates past Seawolves, 2-0

Bemidji State got a pair of goals from Owen Sillinger and limited UAA to 18 shots on goal Friday night in a 2-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association win at Sullivan Arena.

It was a one-goal game until nearly the end, when the Seawolves were penalized for having too many men on the ice.

That put the visitors on the power play with 85 seconds remaining. Thirty seconds later Sillinger netted his second goal of the night.

The loss was the third straight for UAA, which slipped to 1-4-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the WCHA.

First-year coach Matt Curley said he liked some of the things the Seawolves did but lamented his team's lack of consistency.

"Scoring is a byproduct of other stuff, hard work, skating and playing relentless," he said in a release from the school. "We just weren't consistent."

Bemidji State (3-1-1, 2-1-0) outshot UAA 31-18 and held the Seawolves scoreless on two power-play opportunities while going 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

The Beavers took a 1-0 lead on Sillinger's first goal with about five minutes left in the first period.

Brody Claeys made 29 saves in goal for UAA and Bemidji State's Henry Johnson made 18 for the shutout.

The teams play again Saturday at 4:07 p.m.
