UAA gymnastics team posts another big score, edges Bowling Green

The UAA gymnastics team continued its high-scoring season by posting the sixth-best total in program history at the Oregon State tri-meet Friday.

The Seawolves’ 193.450 total was good for second out of three teams, edging Bowling Green (189.500) for the first time in program history (four all-time meetings) but falling short of 15th-ranked Oregon State (195.825).

Led by freshman Rachel Decious (9.775) and sophomore Hope Nelson (9.750), the Seawolves boasted a strong showing on beams (48.575), edging the Beavers (48.500).

UAA topped Bowling Green on every event but the vault, where freshman Ali Marvel (9.725) and sophomore Isabelle Fox (9.700) boasted strong individual scores.

Nelson (9.750) led all Seawolves on bars, while Fox (9.775) and junior Sophia Hyderally (9.825) led on the floor.

Fox contributed to UAA’s total with her 38.825 in the all-around.

“That was a very encouraging performance again tonight,” UAA head coach Tanya Ho said in a press release from the school. “Isabelle (Fox) showed her all-around poise as usual, and our freshmen came through for their best combined effort of the year.”

The Seawolves will take some time off before closing out their regular season with a quad meet at Michigan State on March 17.
