UAA volleyball team sweeps Concordia

The UAA volleyball team used momentum from a close first set to vault to a 3-0 conference sweep over Concordia (Oregon) on Thursday in Portland.

The Seawolves won 28-26, 25-20, 25-20 to improve to 11-4 overall (6-1 GNAC).

The result could have been different if UAA hadn’t been able to secure a victory in a tightly contested first set, which featured 13 ties and seven lead changes.

Senior outside hitter Vanessa Hayes led the charge for the Seawolves on offense with 14 kills and a pair of service aces. Sophomore outside hitter Eve Stephens and junior middle blocker Vera Pluharova chipped in with nine kills apiece for the Seawolves. Sophomore setter Ellen Floyd guided the offense with 41 assists and junior libero Anjoilyn Vreeland paced the defense with 41 digs.

UAA travels to Monmouth, Oregon, to take on Western Oregon on Saturday. Concordia dropped to 6-8 overall (4-3 GNAC).
