UAA hockey team drops season opener in Maine

UAA opened its season with a nonconference 7-1 road loss to Maine on Friday.

Freshman Alex Frye scored the Seawolves’ lone goal at 10:40 of the first period to cut into Maine’s lead and bring the score to 2-1. Sophomore Tanner Schachle and senior David Trinkberger earned assists on the goal.

The Black Bears extended their lead to 5-1 with three goals in the second period and 7-1 in the third period with two power-play tallies.

UAA was outshot 38-21 at Alfond Arena in Orono, Maine.

Anchorage goaltender Jeremy Swayman recorded 20 saves for Maine. Kristian Stead made 31 saves for UAA.

The teams will conclude their series Saturday at 3 p.m. ADT.

The Seawolves are coming off a 3-28-3 record last season.
