The nation’s top-ranked college hockey team completed a weekend sweep of UAA on Saturday in Mankato, Minnesota.
Minnesota State generated twice as many shots as UAA in a 3-0 shutout, sending the Seawolves to their fourth straight loss in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Mavericks scored twice on the power play, each time with the clock running down.
The teams skated through nearly two periods of scoreless play before Marc Michaelis found the net with 41 seconds left in the second period.
Minnesota State (10-1-1 overall, 7-1-0-0 WCHA) scored twice in the third period, getting an even-strength goal from Connor Mackey four minutes into the period and a power-play goal from Jared Spooner with 19 seconds remaining.
Dallas Gerads assisted on two of the goals to finish the weekend with four points. He scored two goals for the Mavericks on Friday, when the Mavericks beat the Seawolves 7-1.
Kris Carlson made 38 saves for UAA, and Dryden McKay made 20 for Minnesota State.
The Seawolves (2-7-3, 2-5-1-2) were outshot 68-39 in the two games and suffered their second shutout in three games. They’ll try to turn things around Friday and Saturday at the Seawolf Sports Complex, where they host Ferris State in a pair of WCHA games.
