Goo, Yasin collect West Region honors for UAA women’s basketball team

UAA seniors Safiyyah Yasin and Yazmeen Goo picked up consolation prizes by earning spots on the All-West Region team Thursday, the same day their season came to a sudden halt when the NCAA canceled all winter sports championship events.

Yasin and Goo are part of the fourth-ranked Seawolves team that was poised to play a first-round game in the NCAA Division II West Regional tournament Friday in Hawaii. The Seawolves ended the season with a 31-2 record.

Yasin, a 5-foot-6 shooting guard, and Goo, a 5-10 point guard, were both named to the region’s second team.

Yasin, of Oakland, California, scored in double figures in 28 of 33 games this season and was named the MVP of last week’s Great Northwest Athletic Conference. She posted season averages of 15 points and two steals per game while shooting 41.2% from 3-point range.

Goo, of Daly City, California, averaged 10.1 points, 3.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 56.8% from the field. She finished her career as No. 3 on UAA’s all-time assists list with 450 in four seasons.
