Nash, Moos finish 1-2 again for UAA men’s cross-country team

Cole Nash and Jacob Moos furnished another 1-2 finish for the UAA men’s cross-country team on Saturday, and this time they did it at a big meet.

Nash, a freshman from Colorado, won his third straight race of the season to lead the Seawolves to the men’s team title at the Chamber Bay Collegiate Open in University Place, Washington. Moos placed second in the 8-kilometer race for his third straight runner-up finish of the season.

In the women’s 5K race, UAA’s Nancy Jeptoo finished second to help the Seawolves finish second in the team standings.

The meet attracted a dozen teams and about 150 runners. It was the first multi-team meet of the season for the Seawolves, who raced in dual meets against UAF in their previous outings.

Nash posted a time of 25 minutes, 1.9 seconds to beat Moos, a junior from Galena, by 14.2 seconds. Felix Kemboi was fifth (25:49.0) and Jesus Avalos was 11th (26:14.4).

Jeptoo clocked 18:43.7 in the women’s race and trailed winner Annika Esvelt of Seattle Pacific by 10.8 seconds. Bailey Roe placed 14th for the Seawolves in 19:58.3.
