Hundreds of people attended two Memorial Day ceremonies in Anchorage on Monday. The Municipality of Anchorage hosted the first Monday morning at the Veterans’ Memorial on the Delaney Park Strip. Later in the day, the annual ceremony at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson began with the American flag being raised to full staff.
Kyle Kaiser visited the headstone of a friend and fellow paratrooper Army Sgt. First Class Christopher R. Brevard that he deployed to Iraq with and was later killed by a roadside bomb (IED) on Mar. 16, 2007 while they were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
