Anchorage Fur Rondy snow sculptures capture whimsy and fun of Alaska life

Entries in the Alaska State Snow Sculpture Championship were judged on Sunday near Ship Creek after carvers spent a week chipping away at blocks of compressed snow that were 8 feet high and 8 feet wide, turning them into works of art.

The Division 1 winners will go to the U.S. Nationals, to compete as Alaska’s team.

There’s still time for fans to cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award at the popular Fur Rendezvous winter festival event, using a QR code located at the entrances.

Below are the competition results:

Division 1 - 3-person Team

1st Place - Block 9 - AK Dept. of Snow - “What’s Up, Jack?”
