Photos: Balmier than usual Frosty Bottom race sends fat-bikers across Anchorage

More than 150 people participated in Anchorage’s annual Frosty Bottom bike race on Saturday. The race featured two courses –– 25- and 43-mile loops –– and took cyclists across town from Kincaid Park to Anchorage’s Hillside neighborhood.

Temperatures were significantly higher than in previous years and hovered around 30 degrees.

Laura Fox placed first in the women’s long course with a time of 3:11:57. She was followed by Shelley Giraldo at 3:24:10; Hailey Stark took third with a time of 3:26:08.

On the men’s side, Will Ross placed first again this year in 2:44:02, followed by Eric Flanders, who was 15 seconds behind. Jason Lamoreaux took third place with a time of 2:45:29.

In the women’s short course, Amber Stull placed first in 1:58:34. Second-place Heather Helzer finished 1 minute and 30 seconds ahead of Sheryl Loan, who clocked in at 2:01:20. Nicholas Straka took first place again in the men’s short course race this year with a time of 1:42:15, followed by Brandon Chiu and Dave Gamez with times of 1:43:20 and 1:48:42, respectively.
