Video: The stunning jumps and hard falls of a world-class figure skating practice

Practice can be an intense hour for world-class figure skater Keegan Messing of Anchorage. Messing’s workout includes multiple styles of quadruple jumps, one of the sport’s most difficult and dangerous maneuvers. Messing said it requires focus and can be physically punishing.

“We’re rotating at a speed of 474 rpms," Messing said. “You don’t do a quad with a so-so attitude or it will laugh in your face and flatten you to the ice.”

Get a close look at the intensity of Messing’s practice at the O’Malley Ice Center in Anchorage in the video above.
