The National Weather Service is forecasting that freezing rain will fall in Southcentral and Southwest Alaska on Thursday.
Occasional freezing rain is likely in Anchorage, the Kenai Peninsula and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough -- mainly west of Wasilla and south of Willow -- in the morning, though the rain could extend into the afternoon.
For Anchorage, the rain is expected to be brief, "possibly coinciding with the morning rush hour. The impact on area roads could be significant."
The Weather Service noted the threat of slippery roads is high as most main roads are cold but snow-free.
In Southwest Alaska, occasional freezing rain mixed with snow will continue in many villages through Thursday afternoon. The change from rain to snow at times may limit ice accumulations in the region.
