Susan and Michael Opalka live in a house that Susan built in 1980. Susan, a retired first grade teacher of 27 years, quilts and does community service around Girdwood.
Mike Opalka is a retired Alaska State Trooper of 18 years. He was the only trooper in Girdwood, and literally worked out of his home. Kevin, their son, is a UAA student who is majoring in engineering. He likes guns.
