The 49th Estate is our answer to MTV's "Cribs," a weekly tour of Alaska homes and interviews with their owners.

Anthropologist Patricia Partnow lives with her affectionate cat, Matt, in a house she bought new in West Anchorage. Partnow has filled her home with a collection of art and cultural artifacts that reflect both her personal and professional interests. Among her extensive collection are contemporary and traditional Alaska Native masks, paintings by Alaska artists, and a wide range of Asian art, including Japanese wall scrolls, a bronze gong, and a kimono that her father bought for her while he lived in Japan. One of Partnow's favorite pieces is a large Alvin Amason painting, "Deep Creek," that hangs in her living room. While she has collected many valuable works of art over the years, she still treasures the first piece she owned -- a painting her father bought for her when she was a freshman in college, which hangs upstairs.
