Prince of Wales Island crash sends 2 injured drivers to Seattle for treatment

Both drivers involved in a crash on Prince of Wales Island late Saturday evening have been flown to Seattle for medical care, after Alaska State Troopers say they were seriously hurt in the wreck.

Troopers said in a Monday dispatch that they responded to the crash, at Mile 14 of the island's Salt Road, just after 10 p.m. Saturday. Only one of the drivers involved, 23-year-old Ronnie Kasinger of Klawock, was immediately identified in the dispatch.

"Investigation revealed that (Kasinger) was northbound on the Salt Road when he crossed the center line into the path of a southbound vehicle," troopers wrote.

Neither driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, troopers said. Both were taken to a Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium facility before being transported to Seattle for further care.
