Toddler drowns in pond in Interior Alaska

A toddler drowned in a pond in the Moose Creek area near North Pole, Alaska State Troopers said Saturday.

The 2-year-old boy was found unresponsive Friday afternoon in Bathing Beauty Pond near Mile 343 of the Richardson Highway, less than a half hour after being reported missing.

A trooper report said the boy, whose name has not been released, was found about 150 yards from the place he was last known to be. He appeared to have made his way down a heavily wooded path to the pond.

Fairbanks Patrol Troopers, Wildlife Troopers and Wilderness Search and Rescue, along with North Pole Fire and Emergency Medical Services, all responded to the scene.

The boy received CPR and was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
