Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Bethel dies in Anchorage hospital

A woman struck in a Bethel vehicle-pedestrian collision Saturday has died at the Anchorage hospital where she was taken for treatment.

Bethel public radio station KYUK identified the deceased as 49-year-old Julia Steven, saying she was taken off life support at the Alaska Native Medical Center on Tuesday. Her family, including her five children, visited the hospital before she died at about 7 a.m. Wednesday.

A Facebook post from Bethel police said the collision took place at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, near Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway and Raven Court. Another pedestrian was also struck but was treated and released at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have asked anyone with further information on the collision to call them at 907-543-3781.
