Police: On-duty officer driving in East Anchorage hits pedestrian

A police officer driving in East Anchorage hit and injured a minor Friday afternoon, officials said.

At 3:05 p.m., police and emergency responders got a call about a pedestrian accident at Boniface Parkway and DeBarr Road.

An on-duty police officer was heading southbound on Boniface in the right lane, police said in an alert.

A juvenile was in the median with an unleashed dog, police said.

"The dog and juvenile ran into oncoming traffic and the juvenile was struck by the officer," the statement said.

The juvenile was taken to a hospital with "serious but non-life threatening injuries," the statement said.

The collision briefly closed the southbound lanes of Boniface Parkway, south of DeBarr.

The traffic unit was on scene, police spokeswoman Nora Morse wrote in an email.

"The speed of the officer will be determined in that investigation," Morse wrote.
