Seward Highway reopens after crash near McHugh Creek

Update, 3:30 p.m.: Both lanes of the Seward Highway have been reopened, police said in a statement, after multiple vehicles involved in the wreck were towed away. Southbound traffic was reported as backed up to the Rabbit Creek area, and police said to expect delays for "several more hours."

Original story: The Seward Highway is closed at Mile 113, near McHugh Creek, due to a multiple-vehicle crash, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

"Both lanes of traffic are closed," the police department said in a statement. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

The crash has halted traffic on the only road heading south out of Anchorage heading south as the weekend begins.

Police spokesman MJ Thim said how many vehicles were involved is unclear, but there were no reported injuries. The road will stay closed while police respond and investigate, he said.
