3 hurt as Homer Air Cessna crashes after takeoff

A charter aircraft crashed at the Homer Airport Tuesday afternoon, sending three people to a hospital for treatment or observation, according to state officials. The Homer Air plane crashed about 2:15 p.m. about 150 yards from Runway 2-1, according to the state Department of Transportation. Three people were aboard and two reported minor injuries, officials said.

The National Transportation Safety Board said the Cessna 206, headed to Nanwalek, was taking off from Runway 3 and was about 300 feet in the air when it lost power. The pilot tried to come around for a landing on the other runway. The aircraft came up short, flipped on impact and was totaled, officials said.

The pilot was not injured but two passengers reported minor injuries including bumps, bruises and abrasions, according to DOT. All were taken to the hospital.

The NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash.
