Anchorage police seek suspect in early morning shooting

Anchorage police said they are seeking a suspect in an early morning shooting in the Russian Jack Park neighborhood Saturday.

In a release, police said a man was shot multiple times inside his home, a trailer in the 1500 block of Hoyt Street, at around midnight Saturday in an apparent dispute over money.

The victim was taken to the hospital, and police say they expect him to survive. Renee Oistad, Anchorage Police Department spokesperson, said in an email the man had been shot "in several different places all over his body."

Police said the man was inside his trailer when another man entered. Police identified that man as the suspect, 28-year-old Khiosomphone Sophasath. Police said the two men knew each other.

"Initial indications are that the two men had a verbal altercation over money the victim owes the suspect," police wrote in the release. "The suspect fired multiple shots before fleeing on foot. Aside from the suspect and victim, there were two children and another adult inside the home during the shooting. None of them were injured."

Police said the victim called 911 and said he had been shot. Oistad said she did not have an update on his medical condition early Saturday evening.

Sophasath remained at large Saturday evening. He is wanted on charges of first-degree assault and misconduct involving a weapon, police said.

Anchorage police ask anyone with information on Sophasath's location to call them at 786-8900, or contact them anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP or online at anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
