SUV strikes pedestrian on Tudor Road; driver arrested on multiple charges

A woman was seriously injured early Tuesday when an SUV struck her on Tudor Road. The driver was arrested for operating under the influence, police say.

The driver, 45-year-old Victor Washington, also faces charges of driving with a suspended license and without insurance, according to an Anchorage Police Department alert issued Tuesday morning. Washington was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.

He was taken to Anchorage jail, police said. The woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Her name was not released.

The vehicle-pedestrian collision was first reported around 1 a.m. near Tudor and Elmore roads, police said. Washington, who had been driving west on Tudor in a Ford Explorer, exhibited signs of being under the influence. An officer administered a field sobriety test, police said.

A police spokesman said it wasn't immediately clear what signs of intoxication Washington showed, but alcohol was involved and possibly drugs.

The woman who was struck was not in a crosswalk at the time, spokesman MJ Thim said.

The accident closed the westbound lanes of Tudor for about two hours.
