Troopers investigating after woman’s body found in Southwest Alaska village

A Tununak woman was found unresponsive in an open field Friday night, troopers said.

Troopers in Bethel were notified of 56-year-old Josephine Link’s death around 11:20 p.m., the department wrote in an online statement.

The major-crimes unit from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene to assist troopers because of “the nature of the initial report,” troopers said. It was not immediately clear what caused Link’s death.

Her body was brought to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Tununak is a coastal community of roughly 370 people in Southwest Alaska.
