When doctors and staff arrived at the Anchorage Planned Parenthood clinic Wednesday morning, they were greeted with the message “Quit or die” scrawled across the glass door in white spray paint.
Several other messages, described by communications director Katie Rogers as “violent threats,” were painted across the windows and sidewalk.
Police were called to the clinic on Lake Otis Parkway just before 7:30 a.m. in reference to graffiti that appeared overnight, Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Renee Oistad said. Charges had not been filed by Wednesday afternoon, but Rogers said the graffiti had been removed.
Rogers said there has been an “alarming increase in hostility against abortion providers and patients across the country in recent months," although this is the first time in recent history that the Anchorage clinic has been targeted.
“We will not stand for this dangerous rhetoric, and we will continue to provide expert, nonjudgmental care. No matter what,” she said.
