Officer hurt, suspect sought after high-speed Anchorage chase

Anchorage police are seeking a driver who they say rammed his way out of an attempt to pull him over early Wednesday, leaving an officer with minor injuries and the suspect at large.

Anchorage Police Department spokesperson Jennifer Castro said in a statement that a gray 2016 Chevrolet pickup, spotted by an officer at about 3:30 a.m. near the Dimond Boulevard overpass of Minnesota Drive, was being driven by 31-year-old Taming Ting Jr., who was wanted for a prior assault.

After the initial officer called backup, police tried to stop the driver — confirmed to be Ting by an officer who saw him in the truck — at the intersection of Minnesota's northbound offramp with International Airport Road. One officer blocked Ting's path with a police cruiser.

"Ting rammed the vehicle into the officer's patrol car and pushed it out of the way," Castro wrote. "Ting fled the scene in the pickup at high speeds. Due to dangerous conditions, the pursuit was discontinued."

Officers found the truck abandoned near Northwood Street and Strawberry Road at about 4:15 a.m.

Police ask anyone with information on where police might find Ting — who is now charged with counts of third-degree assault, criminal mischief and felony eluding — to contact them at 907-786-8900 or Crimestoppers at 907-561-STOP or its website.
