Teen crashes into Anchorage house; police suspect DUI

A 17-year-old girl drove a car into a house on Eleusis Drive in South Anchorage on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Anchorage Police Department, which is investigating her for driving under the influence.

Witnesses told police that she also hit two mailboxes and a mailbox post at three addresses on that same street.

The police "seized two small empty alcohol bottles from the car as well as a white substance that field tested positive for cocaine," APD said.

The girl was driving quickly down Eleusis and failed to make a turn, the release said. Then she "drove into a yard (and) launched into the air, missing some trees," and hit the house.

While the house "may have suffered structural damage," the two people sitting in the room where the car hit were not hurt.

The car had substantial damage, and the driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening head injuries. Witnesses told police she wasn't wearing a seat belt. She was the only person in the car.

Police expect criminal charges once toxicology results are in.
