Wasilla police: Man with multiple warrants caused fatal 3-vehicle crash

Wasilla police Wednesday afternoon said a 28-year-old Palmer man caused a three-vehicle crash that led to one fatality on the Parks Highway at Clapp Street on Tuesday afternoon.

They also identified the victim who died as Edward Swanson, 77.

Glen Hamilton III, who was arrested for multiple outstanding warrants after the collision, was driving north on Clapp Street at a "high rate of speed" when he ran a red light in a 2004 Black Audi, Wasilla police said in a statement.

Police responded to the accident at 12:45 p.m.

Hamilton struck a Toyota Corolla driven by Donna Swanson, 75, of Big Lake. Donna Swanson was transported to the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. Edward Swanson was a passenger and died at the scene, police said.

Hamilton also struck a GMC Sierra driven by Anchorage resident Rene Grant, 44, who was treated on scene by emergency responders.

After being treated at Mat-Su Regional, Hamilton was arrested on four warrants, including one associated with first-degree vehicle theft and another for first-degree burglary.
