88-year-old woman dies in house fire near Butte in Mat-Su

A Mat-Su woman died Monday evening in a residential fire off Knik River Road near Butte, Alaska State Troopers said.

First responders were called to Feltman Court at 6:36 p.m., troopers wrote in an online statement. A woman, later identified as 88-year-old Patricia D. Brown, was unable to escape the home, troopers said.

Butte firefighters forced entry into the building and found Brown dead, according to troopers. Palmer firefighters also responded.

Austin McDaniel, a spokesman for the troopers, said the 700-foot single-story log home that caught fire was Brown’s primary residence. No one else was inside the home when the fire began, he said. Another person that lived there has been displaced by the blaze, he said.

The Alaska State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, but troopers said foul play is not suspected.
