A vehicle that blew through the (JBER) Boniface security gate early Saturday morning led to a high-speed on-base chase at the Anchorage military installation that included several rounds of gunfire by security.
However, the vehicle escaped though the same gate it entered. Security was unable to stop it.
Air Force Col. Brian Duffy, JBER and 673d Air Base Wing commander, said the base is launching an investigation "to bring this matter to resolution," working closely with Anchorage Police and the Alaska State Troopers.
The vehicle has been identified as a light blue 1994 GMC Sierra pick-up truck with the Alaska license plate number 3605DB. Little has been released regarding the driver, who KTUU reported was a male.
Following the incident the Boniface Gate was closed to traffic for seven hours. "We take the security and safety of our personnel and this installation very seriously," Duffy said. Read more.
