Target plans Oct. 11 opening for 3rd store

WHAT: Target Anchorage South, a roughly 170,000-square-foot general merchandise store that will include an oversized stockroom to accommodate unique inventory requirements for the market.

WHERE: 150 W. 100th Ave., off C Street north of O'Malley Road

COST: $16.2 million

ARCHITECT: Mulvanny G2 Architecture, Portland, Ore. (also designed a similar store in North Anchorage)

GENERAL CONTRACTOR: Neeser Construction Inc.

SUBCONTRACTORS: Quality Electric Inc.; Klebs, plumbing and mechanical; Simplex Grinnell, fire alarm; Cosco Fire Protection, fire sprinkler; Swanson Steel; Pacific Partitions Systems, acoustic ceilings; Universal Roofing of Alaska Inc.; Statewide Door & Glass, glazing; Arthun Painting, painting and wall covering; Grazzini Bros, tile and stone; Arnell Flooring; Alaska Professional Construction, concrete slabs; Hussmann, refrigeration; Alas-Co General Construction, thermal insulation; Hot Wire Communications Inc.; and JD Steel, rebar placement.

WHY: "Target's strategy for Anchorage includes multiple stores to cover the market," said David Fransen, a Target spokesman. "The first two opened in North Anchorage and in Wasilla in October of 2008. Our third store will cover the south end of the Anchorage market. Depending upon the success of these three stores, additional stores may be considered in Anchorage."
