Cym Smith registered the fastest time of the day Sunday to charge from fourth place to first in the inaugural Alaska Excursion 120 sled-dog race. Smith and his team completed the 46-mile trail near Big Lake in 3 hours, 38 minutes, 30 seconds -- 10 minutes faster than his Saturday run.
His two-day time of 7:27:21 was almost three minutes faster than runner-up Paul Gebhardt's. Smith collected $2,210 for his win and Gebhardt took home $1,547.
Ray Redington Jr. was third, Dean Osmar fourth and first-day leader Ryan Redington fifth.
