Mat-Su Miners shortstop Bret Schwartz was named Player of the Year and the Miners and Fairbanks Goldpanners dominated the voting in the Alaska Baseball League All-League teams announced Tuesday.
Of the 36 players selected to the first and second teams, 20 played for either the Goldpanners or Miners.
Through Sunday, Schwartz was hitting a league-leading .433 in 38 games, led the league in hits (58) and was tied for second in runs (30). He also owned a .500 on-base percentage.
Goldpanners shortstop D.J. Crumlich won the Gold Glove award. He posted a .947 fielding percentage and helped turn 13 double plays in 37 games.
Stephen Piscotty, an outfielder for the Peninsula Oilers, claimed the Silver Slugger and Top Prospect awards.
