Avalanche sweeps at Fresno

Matt Friese figured in all three Alaska goals and Blake Mendenhall racked 35 saves Saturday night as the Avalanche earned a 3-2 victory to seize a three-game sweep of the host Fresno Monsters in California.

Friese, of Wasilla, who returned to the Avs after a stint in the U.S. Hockey League, scored two goals and assisted on Jack Williams' game winner with less than six minutes to play. In three games, Friese has scored four goals and three assists, furnished a plus-4 rating and cranked off 14 shots on goal.

Daniel Senkbeil delivered two assists for the West Division-leading Avs (17-11-0).

Mendenhall, the reigning Alaska high school Player of the Year after leading West to the state title, made just his fifth start. He has registered a .922 save percentage.
