Henegan, Falkum-Hansen bomb giant slalom

Alyeska Ski Club's youth brigade struck again in the women's giant slalom race Thursday at the Coca Cola Holiday Classic at Alyeska.

Junior 3 skier Sydney Henegan edged Jordan Lane -- Wednesday's winner, and another Junior 3 skier -- by .08 seconds.

Two seconds separated the top five women on the first run and less than three seconds separated the top seven on the second run. Henegan, in third place after the first run, ran the second fastest time on the second course.

UAA's Halfdan Falkum-Hansen won both men's runs, claiming victory for the second day in a row.

He won the first run by 1.25 seconds on Atomic factory skis -- the same type Norwegian star Aksel Lund Svindal used in the Vancouver Olympics.

Falkum-Hansen changed skis for the second run, to test a new pair of 191 race skis, but the new pair was stiffer than the first and seemed better suited to a smooth and icy course. His second-run margin of victory dropped to .6 seconds.

UAA teammate Ryan Wolosyn took second overall, and Alex Erickson, a Junior 1 with the Alyeska Ski Club, took third.

The top open-class women were Sarah Lundgren and Suzie Doll. Lundgren finished third overall and Doll finished fourth. The top three developmental class women were Henegan, Lane, and Junior 4 Juliette Parke. Parke, ninth after the first run, had the fourth-fastest second run, and finished fifth overall.

The top three developmental class men were McGuire Osborn, Barren Cabana, and William Ingrim.

Racing ends today with a slalom on Alyeska's Race Trail, beginning at 11:15 a.m.
