Registe named GNAC athlete of the week

After posting three victories and a school record at the Willamette Invitational track and field meet last weekend, UAA senior All-American David Registe was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's athlete of the week for the second time this season, the league announced Monday. Registe, the 2008 NCAA Division II long jump champion, broke his own school record in the 100 meters, finishing in 10.68 seconds, posting the third-fastest time in GNAC history. The Palmer athlete also won the 200 meters and anchored the men's first-place relay team in the 4x100 meters.

Registe's performances helped the UAA men's team remain ranked No. 10 in the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Division II national poll, released Tuesday. The Seawolves are in first place in the GNAC.

The women's team fell one spot to No. 19 and is in second place in the GNAC, trailing Western Washington.
