The sockeyes have arrived and are being caught at the Russian River. Obey the regulations and watch the ferry times. Don't get stuck across the river after 11 p.m. if you aren't prepared to stay until 6 a.m.
The best bets for kings are the Kenai, Kasilof or Deshka. Try fishing early mornings before the fish get tracked up by boats. Fish and Game has issued some emergency orders affecting king fishing. The Anchor is closed, and the Little Su will close Friday.
Ship Creek fishing has picked up a bit. Try the usual methods: a large Vibrax lure, or cured roe under a bobber. Also, Chester and Campbell creeks have opened for rainbow fishing. Small nymphs or sculpins usually trick the local 'bows.
There's a nice minus tide Saturday. Clam Gulch, Ninilchik and Deep Creek will offer good opportunities for razor clams. Remember, you need a fishing license to dig clams.

Last weekend's opening of the Kenai River was a great one. The sockeye run started out strong, with numbers reaching more than 3,000 on Monday. A big push of fish was observed Tuesday on the lower Kenai and is expected to reach the upper river within the next two to five days.
Trout fishing started out strong over the weekend. The beginning of this week brought on some challenging fishing on the Kenai with the water level slightly low and the water very clear. The trout are easily spooked and require a little extra work. Try fishing from the bank with flesh flies and beads. The Russian is ripe for nymphing and a few are being brought to the surface with dry flies.
