UPDATE: Anchorage runner Eric Strabel, 29, won the men's Mount Marathon race today with a time of 44 minutes and 40 seconds. This is Strabel's 12th Mount Marathon attempt. He previously finished second four times.

Brent Knight, 27, finished second today with a time of 44:58. In third place was 29-year-old race rookie Mark Iverson, who finished in 45:18. Both runners are from Anchorage.

SEWARD -- Kikkan Randall of Anchorage has won the women's Mount Marathon race in 52 minutes and 3 seconds.

Randall, 28, finished ahead of her cross-country ski teammate Holly Brooks, who completed the punshing mountain race in 52:22.

Randall had been a four-time Mount Marathon runner up. Brooks, 29, placed second last year. This is her third-straight near-miss. The pair are cross-country ski teammates at Alaska Pacific University and on the U.S. Ski Team. They were members of the 2010 Olympic cross-country ski team.

The duo were about six minutes ahead of the next-fastest runner.

Earlier in the day, 14-year-old Allie Ostrander of Soldotna crushed her own record in the girls' junior Mount Marathon. In the boys' division, 16-year-old Miles Knotek of Moose Pass ran what is believed to be the second-fastest overall time in the junior race history.

Ostrander, a 14-year-old who has three more years in the junior division, clocked a time of 30 minutes, 32 seconds to shave 43 seconds off the record she set last year. Knotek claimed the boys' victory with an impressive 26:18.

The junior Mount Marathon goes halfway up the 3,022-foot mountain.
